SUEDEHEAD! ROCK STEADY STYLE

Nice piece from British television about the origins and influence of Mod, Ska, Soul Boy Suede and Skinhead culture. From Rocksteady, Ska and Reggae to Northern Soul and Punk. Bust out your Fred Perry.

SUPER POP! Magazine IPANEMA BEAT '70s Style

I found a half a dozen issues of Super Pop! magazine at a flea market in Rio years ago. It was a newspaper style music paper in Brazil in the early 70s. There are music, art and theater reviews, gossip, news, photos, comics, jokes...
Groovy cultural ephemera from post-Tropicalia Brasil. Each issue contains a fold-out poster. Check out a very young and sexy Gal Costa below.

THE BREAKFAST CLUB FACTION

(Above) Classic scene in the Breakfast Club when Judd Nelson starts to tell the 'naked blonde, poodle, salami' joke, but never gets to finish because he falls through the ceiling.

(Below) The Faction were a killer skate punk band from San Jose in the mid-eighties that featured pro skater Steve Caballero.

Here's their cover of the Mamas and Papas 'California Dreamin', which becomes the bad ass punchline to the mystery joke. Love the tweaked lyrics about watching MTV all day and not being able to buy a coke. Straight old school California style!
